In 1957, historical Department of the General staff of the Israeli army conducted a survey of thousands of respondents (among whom were the commanders, military experts, historians and war correspondents from around the world).

According to the survey, a list of the best ground troops in the second world war: (Points from 10 – minimum to 100 – maximum):

  1. The Wehrmacht – 93 points
  2. Japanese army – 86 points
  3. The Soviet army – 83 points
  4. Finnish army – 79 points
  5. Polish army – 71 points
  6. The British army – 62 points
  7. Us army – 55 points
  8. French army – 39 points
  9. Italian army – 24 points.
